Greetings IFMA Members! I want to share with you some major areas of change and progress for the year ahead at IFMA. As we continue to work through initiatives, I’d like to communicate these details with you to let you know what’s on the horizon. Change Management A new focus this year is on change management within IFMA. This discipline will help guide the association to successfully achieve organizational outcomes outlined in our Strategic Plan. Our first step began the week of Aug. 21 and involves the IFMA staff, board of directors and fellows. Using the Appreciative Inquiry method, we will create outcomes that allow us to engage other IFMA stakeholders in the next 60 days. These first steps will provide IFMA with stories which will lead us to our future state. Understanding the best future state for IFMA will help us all work systematically towards those ends. IFMA Strategic Plan The IFMA Board of Directors reviews IFMA’s Strategic Plan yearly and updates it as needed. Our strategic plan clearly states our vision for IFMA to be the global standard and resource for facility management. Your IFMA Board of Directors is collectively focused on evolving us into that global standard and resource. Accordingly, we have developed our strategic themes of global community, membership, sustainability and knowledge/education. All of our actions are focused on one or more of these themes. We balance our decisions on these perspectives — stakeholder, internal (governance and systems), learning and growth, and financial. Learn more about the plan at www.ifma.org/about/strategic-plan. Global Standards IFMA has been involved in the ongoing success of developing global standards to support our FM profession, resulting in the release of three ISO Standards within the last year, and a fourth standard in our near future. The topics are: • FM Vocabulary, ISO 41011:2017 • Guidance on Strategic Sourcing and the Development of Agreements, ISO 41012:2017 • Scope, Key Concepts and Benefits, ISO/TR 41013:2017. In February 2018, we expect ISO to release a fourth ISO Standard, Management Systems, ISO/41001. Collaboration Our five-year collaboration with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), signed April 2016, continues. IFMA now has an enhanced global presence and community through this collaboration, which extends the IFMA reach for credentials, co-sponsoring of events, networking and knowledge sharing. I, along with the board, am very supportive of this collaboration. Please learn more at www.ifma.org/about/about-ifma/ricscollaboration. Initiatives The Built Environment Technology Association (BETA), a new international trade association, was established by IFMA in May 2017 to provide a platform and a community of technologists, innovators and futurists to come together from all over the world to explore what technologies are available at every stage in the life cycle of the built environment. Facility management professionals will be required to know and understand more about technology in their environment. More information about BETA can be found at www.smartbeta.tech. The Research and Benchmark Institute (RBI) is an initiative that will deliver essential research necessary for the FM industry. This institute supports both member and other research and benchmarking needs. RBI will use the IFMA Knowledge Library to make available its research. The possibilities for new research continue to evolve and be realized. Please find out more information about RBI at www.research.ifma.org. This next year is full of opportunities to expand IFMA and continue to establish it as relevant into the future. Please join me in moving IFMA forward and contributing to our future success. People change is necessary to make this a reality.
