Behind the Brand

How is OfficeSpace responding to the ever-changing needs of the FM world?
Whether it’s back to office mandates, tighter budgets, unpredictable attendance, or just the sheer pace of change, no one feels the impact of workplace evolution more than facility managers.
From day one, we’ve responded to real-world problems FMs are facing. In 2006, our founders created the first version of OfficeSpace for a Fortune 100 company that was struggling to coordinate a massive, multi-city move for thousands of employees. When the pandemic hit, we launched social distancing trackers, employee health check-ins, and hot desking in just a few weeks. As RTO puts a strain on workplaces, we’re committed to helping teams ease the transition. Not only do we help teams strategically plan their workspace in fewer hours and with fewer expenses, we help them create a better experience for employees with real-time utilization insights, a user-friendly app, hybrid scheduling tools, and flexible seating solutions.
What research or product innovations is OfficeSpace working on that will help FMs be more successful in their roles?
As AI continues to transform the way we work, we’re dedicated to delivering AI-powered insights rooted in accurate, high-quality data, and incorporating agentic AI within our platform.
More than 71,000 users already navigate their workplace with help from Ossie, the AI “copilot.” Now, Ossie can free up more time for FMs by delivering portfolio insights and identifying occupancy patterns in seconds, while providing real estate and hybrid policy recommendations.
Agentic AI also allows us to accelerate our entire roadmap, delivering years’ worth of innovation in months, like our affordable, next-gen asset management software. Intuitive to use without prior training, FMs will be able to manage furniture, hardware, and equipment to eliminate downtime, prolong the lifecycle of their assets, and keep workspaces safe and efficient.
Are you really named after the 1999 cult classic movie “Office Space?”
Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays… Short answer? Yes, our name is a nod to the film. Long answer? The founders of OfficeSpace, engineering/design duo and childhood friends Shamim Sahba and Ashkon Sabet, had a reputation for building advanced digital solutions for enterprise companies. They launched OfficeSpace when pen, paper, and — if you were really fancy, spreadsheets — were the tools of the trade. It became quickly apparent that space and occupancy planners worldwide could benefit from a digital solution that didn’t require CAD or architectural expertise. Mind you, this was in the early 2000s, not long after “Office Space” (the film) debuted.
In 2025, companies are more aware of and eager to support employee wellbeing and create positive work environments—as far from the drab, fictional Initech office as possible. This has always been integral to our mission, which is why we’re committed to helping teams not only plan their spaces, but exceed employee expectations and create lasting engagement.
Why should FMs pick OfficeSpace as a partner?
FMs are the reason OfficeSpace came to be and our features are built with you in mind. As part of our partnerships with clients, which extend beyond seven years on average, we host dedicated office hours and encourage feedback — you’ll likely see your suggestions make their way into our roadmap. When you don’t have the time or internal resources to tackle a new workplace project alone, we offer live training, on-demand consulting, and technical support. You’re the ones keeping workplaces running, and making the office a place people actually want to come to. We see the work you do, and we’re here to make it easier.
