Do you have a great idea on thought leadership, a best practice or insight on an emerging topic affecting the built environment? IFMA’s FMJ is the perfect place to influence facility management professionals. If you’re reading FMJ, you’re somehow touching the built environment. As we’re all under that umbrella, you have a very captured and focused audience.

IFMA’s FMJ is written by and for workplace professionals. Our authors are your peers – they are affected by trends, strategic planning and all the other daily factors FMs deal with on a daily basis.

And because we face many of those same challenges, make sure that your subject matter is relatable and scalable. While no two facilities are the same, we all have universal truths: dealing with vendors, building systems, government mandates, the C-suite, security and much more.

Maybe you’ve found the answer in the FMJ to a question or situation that you’ve encountered. Maybe someone out there might have a question that you have the answer to… you never know how your solutions can help solve challenges across the industry.

To submit the perfect pitch, follow these three easy steps:

1. Submit a proposal or abstract

Using FMJ’s Proposal Submission Form, tell us about your idea at least four weeks before your desired publication date. Your pitch should be a clear and concise summary or concept outlining the main points of your article. Be sure to highlight how it provides value to the global facility management audience. A good rule of thumb is that it should cover at least one of FM’s Core Competencies.

We’ll review your proposal and either accept it as is or help you fine tune it so you can deliver your best possible message to our global FM audience.

2. Draft, format & submit your article

Once your proposal has been approved, it’s time to start writing your article. We will also send you a link to submit your 1,500-2,000 word article. You’ll also be able to upload visuals (images, graphs, etc.) to illustrate the key points and takeaways.

The best FMJ articles have several things in common. They:

  • are original: Your article must be original, not published elsewhere (print or electronic).

  • are non-advertorial: Avoid promoting specific products, services or companies.

  • focus on the global audience: Write from an international perspective, avoiding nation-centric views.

  • have objective style: Write in the third person (do not words like use “I,” you,” “our,” or “we”) and avoid quoting yourself or co-authors.

  • are not self-aware: Avoid phrases such as “this article will,” or references to earlier sections or articles.

  • follow the guidelines: Ensure that your article complies with IFMA’s FMJ Article Guidelines.

3. Success!

When your article is live, you’ll receive an email confirming its publication and a link to it on the FMJ website. We’ll do our best to have your article published around your preferred publication date. However, due to the volume of articles we receive, we are unable to guarantee that will always be the case.

Finally, be sure to share your article across your network!
